Located in the  quiet and peaceful landscapes of Pakyong district, Yakten has been officially declared as India’s first Digital Nomad Village on July 14, 2025. This important decision by the Sikkim Government is a move towards changing the way professionals work and live, mixing in the idea of modern digital lifestyles with the restful life of Himalayan living.

The idea of starting such a center came up during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the practice of ‘work from home’ became popular worldwide. Even after the pandemic, Sikkim saw a regular flow of digital workers, particularly from cities like Bangalore, who wanted to combine work with nature’s calm. Seeing this chance, the government, together with Pakyong District Administration and Sarrvahitey NGO, initiated the Yakten project.

The main goal of this project is to promote eco-friendly tourism., work-from-home jobs and small local businesses. Yakten is planned to be a place open all year where digital workers can come. professionals from across India and abroad can find a perfect balance between work and relaxation. The village has been provided with high-speed internet connectivity, eco-friendly practices, and an effective waste-free system, helping development stay in line with protecting the environment.

Beyond infrastructures, Yakten aims to encourage community activities and local businesses, giving residents new ways to grow while offering visitors a culturally rich experience. By turning Yakten into a digital hub, the government hopes to make Sikkim a leading example of places for remote work in India.

With its stunning natural surroundings and forward-looking plans, Yakten is set to become a popular place for digital nomads, offering not just a workplace but a lifestyle full of peace, care for the environment, and new ideas.
