Lachen means "The Big Pass". Lachen and Lachuung are two integral part of North Sikkim and are considered as the Twins Sister. These two village works as the base for the tourists who want to travel to Gurudongmar Lake, Chopta Valley, Yumthang Valley and Zero Point. Lachen is located on the banks of Lachen Chu, which merges with Lahung Chu at Chuthang to form the Teesta River. It is situated at the height of 8838 ft above sea level and 127KM from Gangtok, which takes 6 to 8 hours to reach.
