Zero Point – The Last Motorable Road in North Sikkim
Zero Point, or Yumesamdong, is a high-altitude sight in North Sikkim, standing at over 15,300 feet (4,665 meters). It is one of Sikkim’s top attractions and a must visit for its natural, untouched beauty.
The location earns its unique nickname, “Zero Point,” because it marks the last outpost of civilization and the spot where the motorable road ends. Travelers are not permitted to venture further due to the area’s proximity to the Indo-China border.
As a tourism hub, Zero Point offers unmatched sightseeing, famed for its all-year snow. Visitors are treated to panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayas, with the majestic Kanchenjunga dominating the skyline. The landscapes are often compared to Switzerland, making it a photographer’s paradise.
Tourists typically halt overnight at Lachung. Zero Point is the last part of Yumthang Valley, situated 26 km from Yumthang Valley, taking about an hour or more to reach. The scenic drive from Lachung is an adventure itself, passing through the enchanting Yumthang Valley, which acts as a gateway. Yumthang Valley is famous for its alpine flowers and the option to unwind in its natural hot springs.
